Enjoy a cup of morning java? Here are 5 of the best coffee subscriptions

On 1 October, it will be International Coffee Day, an occasion marked by the International Coffee Organization. The purpose of the commemoration is to celebrate your morning brew, as well as coffee growers and the importance of the fair trade movement.

Whether you are a casual drinker or a true aficionado, a morning coffee can be a great way to start your day.

You may have read the article we published previously on the pros and cons of drinking coffee regularly for your health and wellbeing. The upshot here is that, as with most consumables, it is important to drink coffee in moderation and be aware of your intake.

Nowadays, it is possible to have barista-grade beans delivered directly to your door by subscribing to a coffee delivery service. Not only does this mean you have delicious, high-quality coffee at home without paying café prices, but regular deliveries mean you can ensure you are never without your morning fix.

With so many options available, there is a subscription to fit most needs. So, read on to discover five of the best coffee subscriptions currently available in the UK.

1. Pact Coffee

Pact Coffee offers subscriptions starting from £7.95 for a bag. You can choose between different forms of coffee, from beans to ground, to fit your chosen brewing method.

The basic Pact subscription sends you their house blend at a frequency of your choosing between 2 and 60 days. Alternatively, they offer a plan that delivers a different coffee each time, perfect for discovering new blends to enjoy.

You will receive an email a week before your next delivery is due, at which point you can delay it if you are still making your way through a bag. Or, you can ask them to deliver as soon as possible if you have finished it sooner than you thought you might. Each bag is small enough to fit through your letterbox, so you do not need to worry about being home to receive your order.

Pact is also a certified B Corp, an accreditation given to businesses with high social and environmental performance. This is achieved in large part because they pay growers above the Fairtrade base price.

2. RISE

RISE offers a subscription for a coffee box featuring delicious taste-tested coffee, and a card featuring information on the coffee and the roasters. You also receive a free, usually coffee-themed gift, such as a can of iced coffee.

You can choose a frequency of delivery starting from once a week up to eight weeks apart, with the website telling you how many cups a day you would aim to make with that many deliveries. You can also choose to have between one and four 250g bags each delivery.

If you subscribe to RISE, you can receive reward points on your orders, which you can use for further discounts. Additionally, you will benefit from free delivery on all ongoing orders.

When you buy with RISE, you are also supporting a business that prioritises sustainability. All packaging is recyclable, they are committed to working with roasters who share the same environmentally friendly ethos, and 1% of sales go to their Friendly Coffee Fund, supporting coffee-growing communities in Uganda.

3. Grind

Grind has become a phenomenon in London, with four cafés, seven coffee shops, and three coffee vans located across the capital. The company also sells its products in supermarkets, and offers a great subscription option.

With a Grind subscription, you can schedule deliveries from between every one to four weeks. Choose between the house, light, dark, or decaf blends, or opt for the “Editions” package, providing Colombian coffee in line with the seasons. Alternatively, there is a mix-and-match option, giving you something different in each order.

You will receive two 227g bags for each delivery. This comes in a compostable refill pouch to put into the branded Grind tins that you may have seen in homes around the country.

You will get a free tin with your first order, and can choose between colours if the classic pale pink does not suit your kitchen décor.

One difference between Grind and other subscriptions is that, among its options of whole beans or ground coffee, you can also purchase compostable pods compatible with Nespresso machines. So, if you prefer your coffee delivered by machine, Grind is a good option. You can also choose tins of iced coffee, widening the range even further.

4. Blue Coffee Box

Blue Coffee Box is a gourmet subscription service, delivering a pack of speciality coffee on a schedule of every two weeks, once a month, or every two months.

Choose between a single bag of 227g from £9.39 a month. Or, opt for the more expensive box from £17.99 a month in which you will receive two bags instead. Then, embark on what the company calls a “tour of the top 3% of world coffees”.

As with other subscriptions, Blue Coffee Box allows you to choose the type of coffee you would like depending on how you make it, including for espresso machines. You can also choose between light, medium, and dark roast, or allow them to select for you.

Additionally, you can choose a selection of decaf coffees, or even have a mix of caffeinated and decaffeinated, ensuring you have a brew for any time of day.

Payment options are varied for Blue Coffee Box, as you can pre-pay for either six or 12 months, bringing the price down as you do so. You will benefit from free UK delivery on all orders.

All the Blue Coffee Box packaging is fully sustainable, and there is also a gift option, allowing you to purchase a subscription or a one-off order for a special occasion.

5. Ozone Coffee

If you want to try different types of coffee each time you receive your order, the Ozone Coffee subscription is a great way to achieve this goal.

Choose between having the latest Ozone coffee on the In My Mug package. Or, pick from the wide range of house blends, featuring coffees from countries around the world such as Brazil, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.

This is a highly customisable subscription, allowing you to pick between different forms of coffee depending on how you brew yours. Crucially, you can buy bags of different weights, with 220g or 1kg options as standard, and a 3kg option for roasted whole beans.

Additionally, you can schedule deliveries from once a week up to every eight weeks, and you can buy an Ozone subscription for yourself or as a gift for someone else.

Ozone is a certified B Corp, meaning you can be confident that you are choosing coffee with positive social and environmental credentials.
